A salad of sounds morph from one song to another on Panda Bear’s new album Person Pitch. With vocals that can be compared to the likes of Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys, and music composed of field recordings and instrumental loops, Noah Lennox creates a sound completely unfamiliar and almost impossible to peg to a specific artist or style of music. It takes a few listens to realize the extent of the layering of sound that Panda Bear has created. Songs like Bros and Good Girl/Carrots, both finishing in at about 12 minutes, take us on an extensive journey as the direction of the song change multiple times. These changes are so subtle within songs that it becomes more of something you feel rather than hear, and eventually you are listening to an entirely different progression within one song. Person Pitch is composed of five singles that have been released within the past year, plus two new songs to create a masterpiece to add to his collection of self-produced albums. Upon listening to the album entirely, listeners may need to find something familiar to do to realize they are still on the planet Earth.
