Iced Earth & Warbringer Concert Review

Well, I hope everyone had a totally awesome Spring Break filled with lots of METAL. I know I sure did!

Dan and I got a chance to check out a really badass show with Iced Earth and Warbringer at Mojoes in Joliet Illinois on March 17th. It was the first show either of us had been to in awhile, and let me tell you it put the hair back on our chests! We actually caught the very last date of the North American tour, which had originally started out with Iced Earth, Symphony X and Warbringer, but Symphony X… Continue reading

Late Night at The Blue Room: March 20th, 2012

Last week’s show was interesting. Tons of technical difficulties and brain farts. But sometimes things just have to go wrong to make sure the show goes right. So thanks for putting up with that. I’m posting a little late so I’ll make this quick.

Last week’s headliner was Dave Brubeck Quartet

Dave Brubeck practically wrong the book on strange time signatures in jazz thanks to his string of time oriented albums with his Quartet. If you are tired of listening to straight 4/4 all the time, check out some Dave Brubeck. Not to mention he was a great arranger/orchestrator because… Continue reading

Late Night at The Blue Room: March 6, 2012

This past week we had a very special show in store for everybody. I played some Blues and I played some Jazz, but I also played a recording of one of my own pieces that I had cut straight to a 78. With some minor bumps I think it went well. Hope those of you who tuned in enjoyed hearing some of my own stuff. I was just really excited to be able to hear myself on vinyl. Which is something that started to be a rarity.

As always we had a headliner set. This week we had none other… Continue reading

Late Night at The Blue Room: Feburary 28, 2012

Tuesday saw some more redrafting of the set lists in order to smooth out the transitions between Jazz and Blues. I’ll probably have things settled down by next week and then you won’t notice you changed genres until it is too late. (Or at least that’s my intent.)

This week we had Jazz icon Charles Mingus as our headliner. He rounded out the night with a wonderful three song set.

If you have been listening to the show you will have heard me constantly refer to Charles Mingus as”my favorite Jazz artist,” and he is. Charles Mingus was one of… Continue reading

Late Night at The Blue Room: February 21, 2012

Tuesday’s show of the Blue Room saw another headlining set as well as me playing half the show on vinyl. Between the station and my personal collection I have quite the collection of Jazz and Blues to choose from.

This week’s headliner was, of course none other than the King of the Blues himself: Mr. B.B. King!

For those of you who don’t know who B.B. King is, then you have some learning to do. Mr. King was one of the 3 Kings of Blues (Albert & Freddie being the other two) and he pioneered the Memphis style of Electric… Continue reading
