Late Night at The Blue Room: March 6, 2012
This past week we had a very special show in store for everybody. I played some Blues and I played some Jazz, but I also played a recording of one of my own pieces that I had cut straight to a 78. With some minor bumps I think it went well. Hope those of you who tuned in enjoyed hearing some of my own stuff. I was just really excited to be able to hear myself on vinyl. Which is something that started to be a rarity.
As always we had a headliner set. This week we had none other than Mr. John Lee Hooker!
John Lee Hooker is slowly turning into one of my favorite Blues musicians. His groove is spot on, and he speaks more with silence than most other guitar players can say in flurries of notes. Hooker is also a great story teller, and puts you in the story with the mood of what he plays. He is one of the bridges between the old Delta Blues tradition and the newer Electric Blues style. You can also hear that he lived most of what he was saying, or at least his experiences influenced what he sung and spoke about. If you can track down Hooker Alone Vol. 1 I highly recommend it.
Here’s some tunes to tide you over: “Blues Before Sunrise” from Burnin’ & “I’m Bad Like Jesse James [Live]” from The Best of John Lee Hooker 1965-1974
Since I am on break and wasn’t able to record a special show there will be no show this upcoming week. But, I will be back next week (March 20th) with more Jazz and Blues. Also, I may or may not be posting another post this week so I don’t leave you all in too much suspense. But until then, keep is Bluesy, keep it Jazzy, but ultimately it should be classy.

Check us out!
