Outside the Box Music Festival

Wanna hear something cool this weekend?

This Saturday at 7:30, at the Communications Building, they’re having a cool little art festival featuring Radio and Surround Sound.  It looks to be a pretty exciting event, featuring works by some of our own professors and students. I myself will be helping to setup the equipment for the event. So,  if you’re in the neighborhood, drop by and say Hi!

Tornado Warning until 2:15 AM (Updated)

Hey Carbondale,

Some of our staff just woke up to Tornado Sirens. Looking at the Weather reports, there’s a Tornado warning until 2:15 AM. The weather seems fine in our area, but you should take cover just to be sure. Not too long till it’s out, anyways.

Update @ 2:20 AM:

Seems good now. Those of you who live in the Marion area should probably stay down for a bit longer, though.

Lorimor: Simon to leave SIU Law, but maybe not SoIL

By Barton Lorimor (http://btljuice.wordpress.com)

The following is an excerpt from an opinion piece that ran in the Carbondale Times on Nov. 17, 2010.

Sheila Simon is moving on, but not necessarily moving up.

Illinois’ lieutenant governor-elect confirmed Monday what many people have suspected: Yes, she has to quit her job as an associate professor at the SIU School of Law.

However Simon, who was chosen by the Democratic State Central Committee to replace the ousted Scott Lee Cohen as Gov. Quinn’s running mate in March, does not sound like she is preparing to leave southern Illinois.

Some people have offices outside of Springfield, mainly Chicago, Simon pointed out after an on-campus lecture given by President Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe.

So does that mean the lieutenant governor’s office will be in Carbondale?

Well, Simon’s not ready to say for sure, but she would not rule out that possibility.

ILLINOIS…AND NORTHERN WILLIAMSON COUNTY IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS WILL

It should be a whacky weather day as weather moves off of Lake Michigan. Most of the trouble should be seen in the Chicago area, but it might make its way down to us.

Click here to read my accounts of the storm as the sirens started going off at 5:55 a.m. today in Carbondale.
